Explosion rocks Silver Creek High School

The loud blast on the campus of Silver Creek High School frightened the students and faculty at first, but trained teachers quickly calmed the situation and evacuated all students safely.At 1:08 pm., Wednesday, Sept. 26, the main power system exploded, creating heavy black smoke above the campus. “It was a loud explosion,” said Mrs. Thelma Boac, principal of the school, and “quite surprising.”
“We train several times for emergency procedures and the system worked,” she said. “All teachers are trained and the students responded to instructions.” No injuries were reported.

| Symphony Silicon Valley opens season with a world premiere
With five successful seasons completed, Symphony Silicon Valley featured a world premiere to open its sixth season on Sept. 29.
The evening began with a gala dinner at the Arcadia restaurant in the San Jose Marriott. The black tie affair brought out fans of classical music including Woody Guthrie’s sister, Nora, and other family members, Composer David Amram, major donors, its board of trustees, advisory board, Mayor Chuck Reed and his wife, Paula, Council Member Forrest Williams and his wife. The attendees enjoyed the camaraderie, food, and wine before walking across the street to The California Theater. Read
